Smoke In Your Eyes? No Worries, It's A Controlled Burn In The Everglades
WESTON (CBS4) – About 2700 acres north of Alligator Alley and US-27 was set ablaze Friday – on purpose.
The controlled burn was prescribed by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and is being conducted by the State Division of Forestry. These periodic controlled burns are designed to destroy dry grasses that have the potential to catch fire and become uncontrolled situations.
The Broward Sheriff's Office has been receiving calls alerting them to smoke in the area of Interstate 75 and Indian Trace in Weston, but is reporting there is nothing to worry about, according to BSO spokesman Mike Jachles.
The fire, located in what BSO is calling a "remote area of the Everglades" is what probably is causing smoke in the area.
