Sketches Released Of Men From Deadly Robbery Attempt

HIALEAH (CBS4) -The family of 49 year old, Nilo Vila is pleading for the publics help to find the men who shot him to death . Hialeah Police say Vila's wife, daughter and six month old grandson watched as two men approached Vila in the parking lot of their apartment complex, tried to rob him of his gold jewelry and then shot him once in the stomach.

"My daughter pleaded with them so much why, why are you going to do this," said Vila's wife, Bertha Iglesias, with tears streaming down her face. "He was a good man, they didn't have to do this."

It happened around 6 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment building at 3350 E. 4th Avenue. Police said Vila was coming home when he was approached by the two men pictured in the sketches released by police. Although they said Vila did not resist, the gunmen shot him anyway.

"That image will never be erased from my mind," said Iglesias, "because my husband was a good person. He never bothered anyone."

Investigators said after the shooting, both suspects then ran to a waiting car, where a third man was waiting, and took off in what was described as a dark-colored four door sedan.

The crime destroyed the family's holiday plans, they were planning to head home to Cuba for a visit the following day.
