Sketch Released Of Man In Wilton Manors Home Invasion
WILTON MANORS (CBSMiami) – Detectives with the Wilton Manors Police Department walked the streets of their city Monday handing out sketches of a man they believe sexually battered a woman during a home invasion.
"Obviously a horrific crime and we want to get this guy off the streets," Detective Sergeant BIagio Balisteri told a resident.
The crime happened last Wednesday afternoon. The man, described as being in his 20s with short hair and a thin build, forced the 56-year old woman back into her residence in the 2900 block of NW 9 Terrace between 2:30-3 pm. Investigators say the man demanded money then attacked the woman.
"Once inside he brutally beat her and sexually assaulted her," said Sgt. Shawn Chadwick.
The woman was able to describe her attacker to police who came up with a sketch of the man they're looking for. Police say the man ran off heading east towards Powerline after battering his victim.
It is a crime that residents say never happens in this neighborhood.
"It's very, very quiet so when this happened it was very, very shocking," said Johnny Roche. "It's scary."
Maryanne Randolph says she's lived in this area for nearly 3 decades. She says she's taking more precautions now and says a violent crime like this one steals everyone's sense of security.
"It's very unfortunate that you can't feel safe in your own home or your own yard," she said. "Unfortunately it takes something like this to make you more cautious."
