Suspects Sought In Fatal Shooting
MIAMI (CBS4) – Miami-Dade Police say they are looking for the two brothers in the deadly shooting that occurred in front of a Miami-Dade home late Sunday night.
The suspects are David Johnson, 28, and his brother Charles Johnson, 30, said Miami-Dade police spokesman Roy Rutland.
One woman was killed, and four people were injured, when two men began shooting just before midnight in the 1900 block of NW 92nd Street. Family members said 22-year-old Luvonia Williams was an innocent victim caught in crossfire.
Miami-Dade police identified the four victims shot in the melee as David Walker, 26; Suava Dorsett, 22; Tafari Dorsett, 17 and Kiana Dukes, 14. They are all recovering from their injuries, police said.
Luvonia Williams' sister Shenika Williams had been arguing with her boyfriend about his fidelity. David Johnson had just been released from federal prison after serving 8 years behind bars.
"We had an altercation earlier in the day," Shenika Williams told CBS4's Peter D'Oench.
Family friends told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that the suspected gunman was upset that Shenika Williams had broken up with him.
"My sister didn't hurt anybody. She didn't mess with anybody. She was going to school. She's got a baby," said Williams' sister Shenika.
Grief overwhelms the family of Luvonia Williams.
"It's crazy. This can't be. You can't bring her back, this was not called for," Shenika said.
Family members say Luvonia Williams had a 1-year-old son. Luvonia had aspirations of becoming a medical assistant and was attending Fort Lauderdale Career College. She died after the gunmen opened fire on two cars now riddled with bullets. Five were wounded by the bullets and Williams did not survive.
"He killed my sister," said Tisha Williams. "She was just 22. She was just a baby."
Shenika Williams told police that her former boyfriend 28-year-old David Johnson who had served time in federal prison and his brother Charles were the gunmen. Police have issued a release naming them as suspects and asking for the public's help in tracking both men down.
"My boyfriend is the one who did the shooting. Him and his brother," Shenika told D'Oench. "It was something that was about me -- it was about us not about her. Why did he do that?"
Other relatives recounted what they knew.
"His brother was the one who pointed his gun at her and fired. He shot her 3 times," said Tisha Williams, the victim's sister said.
Luvonia Williams' sister said they were robbed of a precious sister.
"I won't forget this. I will never forget this," said Felisha Williams, the victim's sister. "This is a tragedy, I will never, never forget."
Miami-Dade police are asking anyone with any information to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
