TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – Farhana Ahmed knows her brother Rahan Ronny Ahmed has a long road ahead of him, but she's so grateful he is still alive.
"It's just me and him. So I'm really glad he is still here, because I need him," she told reporters Monday afternoon.
Rahan Ronny Ahmed, 21, was studying for finals at Florida State University when he took several bullets from shooter Myron May.
"He immediately knew something was wrong because one of the bullets, one of the first bullets, struck his spine and has left him paralyzed from the waist down," she said.

Fortunately, his condition has been updated from critical to serious.
During the speech, Farhana Ahmed talked about the bright future her brother has.
"They (FSU and medical care) are 100 percent committed to making sure Ronny goes back and fulfills his dream of becoming a biomedical engineer," she said. "They are doing everything they can to make that happen."
John Thrasher, FSU's new president, reinforced Farhana Ahmed's words.
"Farhana and her family are incredibly strong as you can tell," said Thrasher. "All I can say, is that Florida State University is 100 percent committed to ensuring that we do everything we can to fulfill Ronny's dream."
Farhana Ahmed also said her brother has received so much support, from teddy bears to love and prayer.
