Sinkhole Opens Up In West Florida Neighborhood
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Residents of a central Florida neighborhood on the west coast have been allowed to return to their homes after they were evacuated due to a sinkhole.
Neighbors in one Spring Hill community said they saw the ground open up right before their eyes with no warning. The hole was 25 feet by 25 feet wide and 30 feet deep when the ground initially collapsed. In a matter of hours, it widened to about 40 feet by 40 feet.
"This is bad stuff. It could come this way," said Cate Carter who lives near the hole. "It could go that way. Who knows? It's very scary."
The sinkhole opened up near an intersection which cause crack in the road, along with cracks in the foundation and walls of nearby home.
