Sidelines Bless And Haunt The Steelers
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Football is said to be a game of inches and the Pittsburgh Steelers found that out the hard way against the Miami Dolphins, or it could have been a case of the football gods getting even with the Steelers.
Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin earned himself a fine last week after he appeared to take a step closer to the field as a Ravens punt returner was running up the sideline. The Ravens punt returner stepped to avoid Tomlin and was caught and tackled by Steelers players.
Move to Sunday afternoon's game against the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins were ahead and all they had to do was stop one more play.
The Steelers ran the only play available, a pass and then lateral it as many times as you have to in order to get the ball to the end zone. After Ben Roethlisberger threw the ball to Emmanuel Sanders, chaos ensued.
Sanders lateraled the ball to Jerricho Cotchery who tossed it to Le'Veon Bell. After Bell ran out of space, he threw it backwards to tackle Marcus Gilbert. The massive tackle tossed the ball back to Roethlisberger who then tossed it to Antonio Brown.
Brown then took off towards the end zone and appeared to leave the Dolphins defense in the dust. Dolphins safety Chris Clemons was the closest to Brown, but didn't have the angle to get to him. Then, irony struck.
Brown just barely stepped out of bounds around the 13-yard-line on his way to the end zone. One of the officials saw Brown step out of bounds and while the Steelers thought they had won the game; the game was over and the Dolphins had won.
The sidelines giveth and the sidelines taketh away for the Steelers in 2013.
