Shuttle Launch Set For May 16
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – NASA announced Monday that it will try to launch space shuttle Endeavour next Monday for the next-to-last space shuttle flight.
Endeavour had been set to launch on April 29 before an electrical problem in a switch box forced the launch to be aborted. The switch box was replaced and technicians installed new wiring to bypass the original circuitry.
Endeavour will be commanded by Mark Kelly and will have a six-man crew. Kelly's wife, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head in January, is expected to be at Cape Canaveral for the next launch attempt.
Endeavour will be carrying a $2 billion particle physics experiment for the International Space Station, along with other supplies.
Endeavour's launch is set for 8:56 a.m.
