Shuttle Grounded Until May 16
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – Space shuttle Endeavour will not be heading to space anytime soon. NASA said Friday the shuttle will not fly before May 16.
Endeavour's launch, set to be NASA's next-to-last shuttle launch, was delayed after a heater malfunctioned during the countdown. Engineers eventually found a blown circuit inside a switchbox and installed a replacement.
But, before the shuttle can be launched, NASA wanted to carry out more tests on the heater.
Endevaour will fly to the International Space Station and be commanded by Mark Kelly. He is the husband of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the face earlier this year. Giffords is expected to attend the launch when it's rescheduled.
