Police: Three Dead In Domestic Violence-Related Shooting Outside Of A Wendy's In Hallandale Beach
HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiami) -- Hallandale Beach Police said the shooting that took place at a Hallandale Beach Wendy's was domestic violence-related and the act of murder-suicide.
Police said the victim and the suspect were involved in an on and off-again relationship for the last two years. The victim broke up with the suspect a few months ago due to his increasing violent behavior.
Authorities said it is unclear how the suspect was able to locate the victim at the Wendy's.
Detectives said, "He rammed his vehicle into the victims' vehicle as she was getting her food from the drive-through. The victim reversed her vehicle to get away from the suspect at which time he exited his vehicle and began firing his handgun several times in her direction. The victim and her passenger succumbed to those injuries on the scene. The suspect was located unresponsive near the victim's vehicle from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."
Captain Megan Jones tells CBS4's Peter D'Oench that police and paramedics responded to the Wendy's restaurant at 12:48 a.m. after a call came in about shots being fired. Witnesses say they heard about 10 shots fired at the Wendy's restaurant at 1091 West Hallandale Beach Boulevard just east of I-95.
Perk Fargo was working at a nearby Taco Bell restaurant and said "I ain't gonna lie. I am kind of nervous. It made me feel like I was going to die. I heard boom boom boom and gunshots. It was quick though."
Another witness who did not want to be identified said "It was like pew, pew, pew. It was quick and it was dangerous though."
One woman who was working nearby said she was glad she left work early. "I was scared when I heard what happened. I guess it was God's will what happened."
Captain Jones "We responded to the area around 12:48 in the morning after a report of an altercation and shots fired. We found 3 people unresponsive and deceased. They don't appear to be Wendy's employees and we are still trying to determine their relationship at this time."
"This appears to be an isolated incident and we don't believe there is anybody out there intending to do harm to the community," she said. "If there is anybody out there with information that can help us, we would appreciate it so we can try to put this together."
It has been a violent couple of days in Hallandale Beach.
Last Friday, the body of a man believed to be a South Florida rapper was found in front of an abandoned home at N.W. 6th Terrace and 10th St. in Hallandale Beach. A post on social media said the victim was Wisdoms Williams, a rapper known as WizDaWizard.
It's not known if there is any connection at all to the Wendy's restaurant shooting.
