Davie Man Charged In Bicyclist's Death
SOUTHWEST RANCHES (CBSMiami) – A Davie man has been charged multiple counts after a deadly accident Satuday in Southwest Ranches.
The sheriff's office said 28-year old Jose Javier Monserrate-Dural was fleeing the scene of an earlier accident around 11:30 a.m. when he struck 63-year old Dwight Morrison in the 14600 block of Griffin Road.
Morrison, who was out for a bike ride, died on the scene.
"I don't know if he was crossing the street or what, but I heard the crash and I came running and I saw the two police cars and I walked up there and I saw the body," said Ramon Rivera who saw the aftermath of the accident. "I was scared and shaken."
After hitting Morrison, sheriff's investigators said Monserrate-Dural sped eastbound, then crossed over the median and into the westbound lanes. He reportedly sideswiped three vehicles before he crashed head-on into a fourth.
None of the motorists involved in minor collisions with Monserrate-Dural's vehicle were severely injured. One person was transported to Cleveland Clinic for a minor injury.
Davie Fire Rescue took Monserrate-Dural to the hospital for treatment of a minor injury. He was released and transported to the BSO Main Jail. He's been charged with DUI involving a death, DUI with property damage and leaving the scene of an accident involving a death
