Chilling 911 Call Released In Sunrise Double Murder-Suicide
SUNRISE (CBS4) – Sunrise Police released a chilling 911 call on Tuesday from the double murder suicide this past weekend.
On the call you hear a 5 year old girl describe seeing her stepfather, Marcus Trotman, shooting and killing her mother, Danielle and her grandmother, Linda Scudera, before turning the gun on himself.
The girl ran to a neighbor's home inside the Del Rio Village apartments minutes after the shooting. The neighbor called 911 and questioned the child with authorities on the line.
The following is a transcript of a portion of the call:
NEIGHBOR: Where did he shoot mommy?
GIRL: On the ear.
NEIGHBOR: On her ear? And where is she now?
911 OPERATOR: She was shot on the ear?
GIRL: My grandma's dead and my daddy's dead.
NEIGHBOR: How do you know this?
GIRL: They're dead. I saw them.
Later in the call, the child describes more of what she saw.
"It was like shoot -- and my daddy shoot my mommy," the child is heard saying. "And then, and then he hit my grandma and now, my daddy's dead, my grandmom's dead and my mommy's dead."
Other neighbors like Iyoscent Sterling watched the little girl grow up and can only imagine her pain.
"That she has to live with something like this. How is she gonna get over this?," Sterling said.
The most difficult part of listening to the 911 call is the child knows that the people closest to her -- the ones who raised her and loved her -- are gone.
Another portion of the call:
GIRL: Can I live here?
NEIGHBOR: Yes, you can live here with me.
GIRL: Because my daddy, my mommy and my grandma are dead. I need somewhere to live.
NEIGHBOR: Darling, you can stay with me. You don't have to worry about that, ok. I'm not going to leave you.
The Department of Children and Families took custody of the child -- and another of Danielle Trotman's children -- on Tuesday. DCF is working to determine which family members should care for the children. DCF said the little girl who witnessed the shootings will receive counseling.
On Tuesday, CBS4 News also learned that the gun used is believed to belong to South Florida radio personality "DJ Laz." Investigators say Marcus was staying at "DJ Laz'" home while sorting out marital issues.
"He has reported that he is missing a gun, similar make, similar model, similar caliber," said Sgt. Rodney Hailey with the Sunrise Police Department. "We've also recovered a gun at the scene, similar make, similar model, similar caliber.
The deadly violence shocked friends who've known the family for years.
"A family that has tragedy just attached to them," said Alex Colon. "It seems their destiny was just tragedy."
Two other minor children were also placed into DCF custody at Tuesday's hearing.
Trotman, police said, had a history of violence against his wife. He was arrested on August 21st of this year by Sunrise Police for simple battery on his wife.
