Shapiro Trustee After Law Firm Payments
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The bankruptcy trustee in the Nevin Shapiro case has asked for the Miami law firm that represented Shapiro to fork over $912,000.
The trustee is seeking the money for victims who were swindled by Shapiro's $930 million Ponzi scheme. Shapiro is serving a 20-year sentence after pleading guilty in federal court.
Specifically, the bankruptcy trustee said the law firm of Guy Lewis was paid with money that should have gone to wronged investors. Some of the money came from the sale of Shapiro's yacht.
The yacht was used to entertain Miami Hurricanes players by Shapiro during his days as a UM booster.
