Sex Trafficking Arrest First Ever For Keys
KEY WEST (CBSMiami) - A Key West man has been charged with sex trafficking, and while that has become a growing problem in South Florida, the Monroe County Sheriff's office said this is the first time, ever, someone has been arrested for this in the Keys.
Derrick Wilson of Key West was charged Saturday after he offered her a sexually charged deal, according to Monroe Sheriff spokesperson Becky Herrin.
She said Wilson offered the woman, whose name was withheld by police, a place to live and drugs if she would earn money by having sexual encounters he arranged for her.
Herrin said the woman also claimed Wilson arranged to work at a strip club and threatened to beat her unless she went along with the scheme and make money for him.
The woman told Monroe detectives that she came to the Keys in February with her boyfriend.
Bond was set at $100 thousand, and Wilson is being held in the Monroe County Jail.
