Several People Injured In Biscayne Bay Boating Accident
MIAMI (CBS4) – Several people were injured when two boats collided in Biscayne Bay Sunday evening.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said nine people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries and one man was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital with severe leg injuries.
"It was a very violent, violent collision, it's a miracle right now that we don't have anybody that lost their life," said Jorge Pino with FWC.
A 36-foot Carrera packed with 16 people was t-boned by another boat around 6:30pm. The other boat, which had two people on board, capsized.
The crash happened in Biscayne Bay just west of Sands Cut, a popular weekend boating spot in Biscayne National Park. Several people on board the Carrera were knocked into the water during the impact. It is still unclear who was at fault and if any alcohol was involved.
"We're going to look into whether they were abiding by all regulations set forth in regards to how many people were on board we are also going to look to make sure that all the safety equipment was on board," said Pino.
