Serious News Bumps Ron Burgandy Off "SportsCenter"
BRISTOL, Conn. (CBSMiami/AP) – Ron Burgandy can thank "potential implications" of the Jameis Winston news conference scheduled for Thursday at 2 pm for his being bumped off today's "SportsCenter."
Ron Burgandy, the fictional character played by actor Will Ferrel, was scheduled for Thursday's evening edition of the highlights show on ESPN.
The network, on Wednesday, announced that Burgandy's appearance had been scrapped because of the news conference about the investigation into sexual assault allegations against Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston.
ESPN says Ferrell's guest spot hasn't been rescheduled. His character has been on a media blitz to promote "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," which included covering Canada's Olympic curling trials and hosting a local newscast in North Dakota.
