Serena Williams: 'I Don't Think About' '09 Tirade
NEW YORK (AP) — Serena Williams says she doesn't think about her tirade at a line judge over a foot-fault call at the end of her loss to Kim Clijsters in the 2009 U.S. Open semifinals.
Williams is back at the Grand Slam tournament for the first time since that infamous outburst. She missed the 2010 U.S. Open after having surgery on her right foot.
Asked at a pre-tournament news conference Monday whether she learned anything from that episode, Williams said: "I don't know. I don't think about it.''
Rolling her eyes, she said: "Oh, my God. That was, like, two years ago.''
In 2009, the three-time U.S. Open champion unleashed a profanity-laced, racket-brandishing display that drew a record $82,500 fine from the Grand Slam administrator.
