Sentencing Delayed For Brutal Rape In Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – The family of a woman who was dragged to the beach, beaten, raped and left unconscious was left waiting for justice Friday.
A Broward judge put off sentencing for the convicted rapist, giving the defense more time to gather information to plead for mercy, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Guy Cherubin, 35, was found guilty Thursday of sexual battery and attempted murder following a Sept. 13, 2008 attack near the Briny Pub. Cherubin faces life in prison for the brutal attack.
Sentencing was originally scheduled for Friday morning, but defense lawyer Utpal Dighe asked Broward Circuit Judge Jeffrey Levenson to put it off until next Wednesday.
In another rape case, Cherubin is also charged with another Pompano Beach that occurred just 11 days prior, on Sept. 2. A trial date has not been set in that case. Prosecutors believe he was involved in at least three other sexual assaults.
