Sen. Bill Nelson Addresses Florida Democrats' Convention
LAKE BUENA VISTA (CBSMiami/AP) – The Florida Democratic Party wrapped up a three day convention in Lake Buena Vista held to pump up party activists before next year's election.
About two thousand people attended the convention which sought ways for President Barack Obama to carry Florida and for Sen. Bill Nelson to win a third his third term.
Nelson, however, hasn't exactly acted like he's got a race to run in 2012. He doesn't have a campaign manager and hasn't been afraid of tie himself to the president. Nelson has been raising a ton of money and is running on a philosophy that just doing his job is good enough for now.
During the convention Nelson gave a speech to delegates and hosted a party for activists, but refused to discuss the five Republicans challenging him for his seat.
Governor Rick Scott was a favorite target of speakers at the convention Saturday. Speaker after speaker depicted Republicans as ideologues who care more about blocking Obama's agenda than compromising to help Americans.
