DAVIE (CBSMiami) - Surveillance video captured three people involved in a car burglary in which a semi-automatic pistol was taken.

It happened around 2 a.m., on December 21st, in the Ridgeview Lake Estates development off Nob Hill Road, south of I-595.

Two of the people stayed on the sidewalks on opposite sides of the street, acting as lookouts, while the third person walked up to a car parked in front a residence on SW 105th Avenue and broke in.

"When the owner came outside, noticed that his trunk was open, his car had been burglarized, he found a remote keyless entry key fob in one of the cup holders, it was very strange because that key fob did not belong to him," said Davie police Sgt. Mark Leone.

There are a couple of things of added concern here - first is how they got into the car.

Police say it appears the crooks had a cloned key fob.

"When he tried his key fobs they no longer worked," said Sgt. Leone.  "So it's very possible that these individuals somehow were able to clone a key fob and bypass the keyless entry system."

The second worrisome issue is what they took when they got inside.

"They rummaged through the vehicle," Leone said,  "trying to get whatever was of any value, that's when they found this firearm that was in the glovebox and they stole that."

The gun that was taken was a Sig Sauer P238, which had a bronze Spartan helmet on the grip, was worth approximately $700.

Anyone with information on this burglary is urged to contact the Davie Police Department at (954)693-8200 or Broward Crime Stoppers at (954)493-TIPS (8477).
