Selfie Stick Ban At Walt Disney World To Begin June 30

ORLANDO (CBSMiami) – Back in May, Disney World banned selfie sticks on its rides and now the theme park giant is taking the ban one step further and banning selfie sticks from all of its theme parks.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, a company spokeswoman cited safety concerns for the selfie stick ban.
The paper reports the new policy takes effect Tuesday and selfie sticks won't make it past the bag check at any Disney World theme park. The sticks also won't be allowed in Disney World water parks or DisneyQuest, a gaming attraction at Downtown Disney.
Selfie-sticks will also be banned at Disneyland Resort in California on June 30. The prohibition kicks in at Disney's parks in Paris and Hong Kong on July 1.
If your selfie stick is confiscated at the routine bag check near the parks' entrances, you can turn them in and pick them up later or return them to your car or hotel room.

Disney officials have been discussing the change for a while but earlier this week at Disney's California Adventure Park, someone riding a rollercoaster ignored the selfie stick ban which caused an emergency stop on the ride. The ride was closed for an hour. Universal Orlando doesn't allow selfie sticks on certain thrill rides at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventures but does not have a park-wide ban.
