Section of Florida Turnpike reopens in Miramar after vehicle fire
MIRAMAR - A truck fire on the Florida Turnpike Extension in Miramar caused the temporary closure of the southbound lanes early Wednesday morning.
According to the Miramar Fire Department, around 3:15 a.m. they received a call about a fuel tanker truck fire. When crews arrived, they found the fire was contained to a wheel well area on the tanker and they were able to quickly extinguish it. The remaining fuel was offloaded into another tanker and the damaged tanker was towed away.
While this was happening, the lanes were closed to traffic between University Drive and Red Road due to the fire. Drivers were forced off the highway at University Drive.
Shortly before 6:30 a.m., the lanes reopened, but drivers experienced delays.
There were no injuries reported.
