Second Suspect Arrested In Robbery That Led To Police-Involved Shooting
LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami) – A second suspect police believe was involved in an armed robbery that ended with a deputy-involved shooting last week has been arrested.
Inisha Christopher, 24, was arrested Saturday and some of the victims' property was recovered from the robbery, according to Broward Sheriff's Office.
BSO credits Christopher's arrest, in a release sent out Monday, to, "good old-fashioned police work."
The incident began Thursday when BSO said that two women were robbed of their purses at gunpoint by at least two suspects who then fled from the scene.
The women, startled from the robbery, ran into GG's restaurant at 5440 Florida 7 in Fort Lauderdale for help.
The investigation led a police dog to canvass the area of the Cypress Grove apartments at 4200 NW 19 Street where the deputy spotted a man police say fit the suspect's description.
Police say the deputy gave commands to the suspect, but instead of complying, he ran into the apartment building.
The deputy chased the suspect down a hallway—that's when police say the suspect turned and began firing at the deputy. The gunfire exchange ensued and ended with the suspect, Steven Thompson, being wounded several times.
Thompson, 26, died as a result of his wounds. The deputy was not injured.

At the time of the incident, the deputy involved, Deputy Gerald Wengert, was placed on administrative assignment pending a review of the incident
Police say Thompson's arrest history dates back to 2003 when he was 16-years-old. Records show that he's been arrested on felony charges 29 times and convicted 11 times. Prior offenses, according to BSO, includes burglary, grand theft, fraud and trafficking, and possession of narcotics.
Investigators were led to Christopher after investigating Thompson's criminal history to see if any of his known associates matched the description of the second suspect.
Detectives obtained a search warrant after presenting a photo line-up with Christopher's mug shot to the victims. Police said they identified him as the accomplice in the armed robbery.
Christopher was booked into the BSO Main Jail facing two counts of robbery with a firearm.
