TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - As the House and Senate move forward with their budget plans this week, Gov. Rick Scott is trying to ramp up support for his proposed tax cuts.
Scott on Tuesday will appear at a booth in the Capitol with University of Florida President Kent Fuchs and will follow the next day by appearing with Florida State University President John Thrasher and FSU football coach Jimbo Fisher, according to the governor's office.
The booth will include a "tax cut calculator" that will show people how Scott's proposed cuts to the communications-services tax would affect their cell-phone and cable-TV bills.
In all, Scott has proposed tax cuts that would total $673 million, with the reduction in the communications-services tax by far the largest part of the package. He also has proposed eliminating the sales tax on college textbooks, a move he says would help families with higher-education affordability.
