Scott Signs Death Warrant For Man Convicted Of 1989 Triple Murder
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami.com) - Governor Rick Scott signed the death warrant for a man convicted of murdering an Ohio mother and her two daughters and tossing their bodies in Tampa Bay.
A Department of Corrections spokeswoman confirmed Oba Chandler is set to die by lethal injection at 4 p.m. on November 15.
Chandler was convicted of murdering 36-year-old Joan Rodgers, her 14-year-old daughter Christe and 17-year-old daughter Michelle while they were returning to Willshire, Ohio, in 1989. He stripped them from the waist down, bound and gagged them and weighted their bodies before dumping them.
Chandler turns 65 on Tuesday.
It's the second death warrant Scott has signed since taking office. The first was for Manuel Valle, who was convicted for the 1978 murder of Coral Gables Police officer Louis Pena during a traffic stop.
Valle was executed on September 28th.
