Scott Lands Speaking Role At Rep. National Convention
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Governor Rick Scott is helping to host the Republican National Convention later this month in Tampa and has now been given a speaking role at the quadrennial gathering of the GOP.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Scott will announce several speakers during the convention that will culminate in the nomination of Mitt Romney as the party's choice to face President Barack Obama for the White House.
The list of other GOP leaders that will speak is a who's who of conservatives. Among those scheduled to speak in Tampa are: South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, New Mexico Gov. Susanna Martinez, Senator John McCain, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
The GOP hasn't announced who will be the keynote speaker for the event. Also not on the list, at least thus far is any of Romney's potential vice-presidential picks including: Senator Rob Portman, Senator Marco Rubio, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Romney has promised to name his vice-presidential pick in the coming weeks before the convention. His campaign released a smartphone app that would reportedly name the pick before anyone in the media even finds out.
The official schedule of speakers hasn't been released yet. The Republican National Convention will be held August 27-30.
