Scott Is No Scrooge, Adds Paid Day Off
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) -- State employees are getting an early Christmas present from Governor Rick Scott.
Citing their diligent service and acknowledging they have not received cost of living raises in five years, Gov. Scott on Friday gave state employees an extra day off with pay as he ordered state buildings to be closed Friday, Dec. 23.
"This year has been yet another extremely difficult period for many Floridians, including state employees who diligently serve the State of Florida," Scott said in a statement.
The governor ordered the Department of Management Services to close all state executive buildings the Friday before Christmas. The Florida Supreme Court is also taking the day off. Both the House and Senate will also close up shop for the day.
"I wish you and your family a joyous holiday season," Scott said.
