Sarah Palin Comes To Newt's Defense
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Newt Gingrich has been taking flak from all sides of the conservative movement as his campaign got stronger after South Carolina. But, he's getting a helping hand from an unlikely source that never shies away from controversy.
Former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin was angry over the way Gingrich's relationship with former president Ronald Reagan was characterized by Mitt Romney and some in the conservative media.
Palin took to her Facebook page to slam people who criticized Gingrich's conservative credentials.
"What we saw with this ridiculous opposition dump on Newt was nothing short of Stalin-esque rewriting of history," Palin wrote. "It was Alinsky tactics at their worst."
Palin also said that the attacks on Gingrich from the Republican establishment were part of a larger dynamic that pitted them against the tea party and other Republicans who are "sick of the politics of personal destruction."
Palin's husband, Todd, had previously come out and supported Gingrich, but Sarah has not officially endorsed anyone. For a time, she was mentioned as a possible candidate but she removed herself from consideration well before any primaries.
