Sanford Police Car Shot Up
SANFORD (CBSMiami) – Sanford police have launched an investigation after someone peppered one of their patrol cars with several bullets.
Police spokesman Sgt. Dave Morgensternsaid the car, which was in parking lot of Bentley Elementary School, is used as a deterrent to tour bus operators who try to park on school property during the day and evening hours.
The school is across the street from the Retreat at Twin Lakes, the gated community where 17-year old Trayvon Martin was killed by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman on Feb. 26th.
Morgenstern said Tuesday they received several calls around 4:30 a.m. about the sounds of gunshots being heard coming from around the school. Arriving officers found several bullet holes in the car's windshield, the front passenger window had been shot out and a round had punctured the car's hood.
Sanford police have not said if they suspect the vandalism is related to the Martin case.
