Sand Replacement Begins Along Ft. Lauderdale's A1A
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Another phase of an emergency fix to a section of State Road A1A in Ft. Lauderdale is underway.
Monday morning, more than a dozen trucks fill with sand lined up north of Sunrise Boulevard to begin replacing what was lost from Superstorm Sandy swells and seasonal high tides.
This area along the beach is the same area where the Florida Department of Transportation is currently installing sheet pile.
The sand placement is expected to occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and take three to four weeks to complete.
Due to safety concerns, public access to this section of the beach will be restricted during beach construction hours.
As State Road A1A has been reduced from four to two lanes in this area and there will be extensive construction activity for the next several weeks, motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area from Monday through Friday until construction is complete.
