Salvation Army Seeks Red Kettle Bell Ringers

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - If you're looking for some extra cash for Christmas, the Salvation Army of Broward County wants you—to ring their bells.

The Salvation Army of Broward County needs to hire 100 seasonal workers to help with fundraising efforts through its annual kettle campaign and they held a job fair Thursday in search of energetic and outgoing bell ringers.

Some returned for a repeat performance.

"I have done it for the past two years and I thought I would come back and do it again this year", said Daniel Kruglick.

Each year, thousands of Salvation Army Red Kettles serve as collection stations around the world beginning in November, and continuing through Christmas Eve. Donations to the Red Kettles stay local, supporting programs in the communities in which they were received.

Thursday's job fair is being held at the Broward County Salvation Army Corp. located at 100 SW 9th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Positions start at $8.00 per hour and transportation is provided from the Salvation Army administration building to the various bell-ringing locations. Applicants must be able to work Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. beginning November 12 through December 24.

There are a few rules to adhere to if you are chosen as an official bell ringer, including no smoking, no eating, no drinking, and no slouching on the kettle stand.

And of course, you should wish everyone a friendly "Merry Christmas" if they drop in a donation.

Public contributions to the kettles enable The Salvation Army to bring the spirit of Christmas to those who would otherwise be forgotten.

"If we are not out there in the public the funds are not raised and the more funds we raise the more people we can help", said Salvation Army Major Rebecca Hogg.
