S. Florida Muslims Celebrate The Start Of Ramadan
MIAMI (CBS4) - Friday morning marked the start of the ninth and holiest month in the Islamic calendar.
Ramadan is one of five pillars of Islam and requires people who practice the Muslim faith to abstain from food and drink during the daylight hours, but break from their fast at sundown and offering special prayers
But the month of prayer and fasting is also a month of feasting.
Friends and family will gather daily at sunset to break the daily fast.
"Happy Ramadan" is a common greeting to give to those practicing the Islamic faith.
There are two events in South Florida to celebrate Ramadan:
Thursday July 26th at 7.45 PM @ Islamic Center of Greater Miami located at 4305 NW 183 St, Miami Gardens FL 33055
Wednesday August 8th at 7.45 pm @ Islamic School of Miami located at 11699 SW 147 Ave. Miami FL 33196
Organizers say those who are not of the Islamic faith are welcome to attend either event.
