S. Florida Homeless Shelters Ready For Cold Weather
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Homeless shelters in Miami prepped for the extra amount of people that may be coming in, due to the cold front.
Homeless shelters across South Florida prepared extra beds as temperatures dipped into the 40s with gusty winds of 10 miles per hour.
The Miami Rescue Mission anticipated they would help about 100 more homeless individuals than normal.
The Broward Outreach Centers in Hollywood and Pompano Beach also expected extra residents and implemented their "Compassionate Nights" program that gave individuals a meal, change of clothes and a bed for the night.
The shelters offered extra beds on Saturday night and said they will continue until the cold weather has passed.
Shelters are asking for donations of blankets, jackets and socks.
