S. Florida Campers Witness History At Planetarium
MIAMI (CBS4) - When campers arrived at the Miami Planetarium summer camp on Friday, most of them had no idea that they were about to witness history.
The Atlantis lift-off marked the last flight of America's space shuttle program.
"I wish there were more so we could explore space more," said camper Henry Santer.
Camp counselors at the Planetarium tried to explain to the confused children that it was just time for the program to move on.
"Everything is just going to get faster and better and easier," Counselor Daniel Brillat told the students. "We thought the moon was so impossible and we barely did it. And now we already have things flying out past Pluto."
Others got a little sentimental about witnessing the historic day.
"Well I am a little bit sad but I'm also a bit excited about the future of space exploration," said Miami Planetarium's Mark Bennett. "This might be the beginning of almost what Henry Ford did to the car with mass production we may actually see more space exploration in the future."
