S. Fla. Woman Fights Cancer One Cookie At A Time
MIAMI (CBS4)- A family's secret cookie recipe has become a weapon for fighting cancer for one South Florida woman as she sells her cookies to benefit a higher cause.
Judy Aguirre's cookies may have started off as a family treat, but three years ago they became really popular.
"Everybody always went crazy over them. Crazy," said Judy Aguirre to CBS 4's Jorge Estevez.
Aguirre would take the cookies with her when she brought her cousin, Jani Haas, to her chemotherapy treatments.
"I would bring cookies to the nurses and doctors because they are amazing," said Aguirre.
Judy said those nurses and doctors were treating her cousin during her battle with breast cancer.
"It was moving. I saw how she touched not only my life, but everybody else's life," said Jani Haas.
The baking continued, but one day the operation really turned around and Aguirre started selling the cookies.
"If we could sell them and give part of the money to cancer research then it would serve a purpose," said Aguirre.
So, "Cookies for Jani" began out of the house in Pinecreast with an array of pink and white supplies for packing, and now ten different flavors.
So what is the secret recipe to these thin crispy cookies?
"Everyone who works on this is really happy to do this. So, I think it comes through in the cookies," said Aguirre who would not reveal her secrets and laughed about her evasive answer.
