S. Fla. Teen At Center Of Explosive Chemical Discovery
WEST PALM BEACH (CBSMiami) -- The FBI continues to investigate the discovery of potentially explosive chemicals found at a home in an upscale South Florida gated community as their investigation zeroes in on a teen who bought the chemicals.
According to a search and seizure warrant served Friday, October 7th, the FBI found materials used to make explosive devices inside the West Palm Beach home, located at 10368 Osprey Trace in the Ibis Golf and Country Club.
According to the search warrant, 18-year-old Martin Morganroth purchased the chemicals at a local pool supply store.
His attorney Richard Springer told CBS affiliate WPEC, the materials purchased were extra strength hydrogen peroxide, acetone and hydrochloric acid.
Springer said a suspicious pool supply store employee called the FBI after Morganroth bought the supplies.
The FBI has not commented on the case, only saying the investigation is ongoing.
Morganroth lives in the home with his mother, Margaret O'Shaughnessy.
Springer said he couldn't discuss why Morganroth might have bought the items but said the reason isn't what it seems. Springer said the "real explanation is very innocent."
The chemicals removed during the search were taken to a remote location and detonated, according to West Palm Beach city spokesman Chase Scott.
The teen has not yet been arrested or charged in connection with the FBI's investigation.
