S. Fla. Non-Profit Thankful For Toy Donations
MIAMI (CBS4) - A South Florida group is grateful for some much-needed donations received one day after their story aired on CBS4 News.
Since their story aired Thursday night, the Sankofa Society has had about twenty people call in to help but more donations are still needed.
The Sankofa Society has been giving away hundreds of toys for two years in South Florida but this year, the group had only a few dozen to give away.
Organizers Derrick Moore, Kernique Baton and Tiffanie Dock want to make sure they have enough toys for their annual giveaway. They need at least 250 toys.
The event isn't just about toys either. The organization uses the event to teach kids about reading and using the local library.
"And when they come in, they take a tour, we sign them up for library cards, and we show them all the things the library has," said Kernique Baton.
Hundreds of needy families have already registered for Saturday's toy giveaway, so if you'd like to help, there's still time.
