S. Fla. Man Gets 20 Years For Fatal DUI
WEST PALM BEACH (CBS4)- A South Florida man who fled to Belize and was later returned to the U.S. has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a fatal DUI.
A Palm Beach County judged sentenced 67-year-old James D. Baker on Friday. He pleaded guilty in April to one count of DUI manslaughter, plus six other DUI counts. He was scheduled to plead guilty to the charges last November, but authorities say he removed his ankle monitor and fled to Belize. He was captured a month later.
Police say Baker was driving drunk on Interstate 95 in Boca Raton in June 2008 when his car crashed head-on into an SUV carrying five people. Three people were ejected from the SUV. One of those ejected, 23-year-old Christina Duvalsaint, died of her injuries.
