S. Fla. Letter Carriers To Collect Goods For Food Banks
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Postal carriers in South Florida are participating in the nation's largest one-day food drive by collecting canned goods and other items.
Residents wishing to participate in the "Stamp Out Hunger" drive should leave a bag of non-perishable goods near their mailbox Saturday morning.
Canned soup, canned meats, beans, vegetables, pasta, rice and healthy cereals are among the most needed items. They should be items that do not require refrigeration.
Please do not include items that are expired or are in glass containers.
Letter carriers will collect the donations on their regular postal routes.
Last year, more than 988,000 pounds of food were collected in Miami for local hunger-relief organizations.
The food drive is a joint effort of the U.S. Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
