S. Fla. Gears Up For Heavy GOP Campaigning
MIAMI (CBS4) - Mitt Romney is campaigning in South Carolina hoping to make it three after his wins in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Thursday, Romney will begin campaigning heavily in South Florida with a rally at the Palm Beach Convention Center.
Just hours after winning the New Hampshire primary, Mitt Romney's campaign began dumping money in the Sunshine State with television commercials like this one.
A new Quinnipiac poll shows that in a head-to-head race against the President, Romney would win by three points. But November is still a long way off.
"Eight months, nine months in a presidential campaign is a lifetime," said Dr. Dario Moreno of Florida International University. "Given how close Florida is, those numbers can change dramatically."
We also caught up with Republican Congressman Allen West and asked him if he's ready to support any one candidate.
"Well that's not the food fight I'll be entering. Whoever the eventual nominee is, I'll get behind them and give them my full 110% support," said Congressman West.
Yet West does believe Romney has an advantage in Florida because of fundraising and endorsements. At the end of the day, he says Republican voters want change.
"The number one criteria people are looking for is someone who is very strong at beating the President," he said.
A recent poll shows Romney has a double-digit lead in Florida, and if the pollsters are right, he could easily win the State with Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum following behind.
