S. Fla. Author Brad Meltzer Shows Softer Side With Book For Daughter
MIAMI (CBS4) - Bestselling thriller and mystery author Brad Meltzer has just released a new book "Heroes For My Daughter", but this time, he had his daughter Lila in mind while writing it.
He told CBS4's Shannon Hori that his daughter has been begging for it since he released "Heroes For My Son" a couple of years ago.
The book is filled with people, men and women, that Lila can look to for inspiration and strength as she grows up. People like Abigail Adams, Tina Turner, even cartoon character Lisa Simpson.
Lila says her favorite is trailblazing aviator Amelia Earhart.
"She teaches us that anyone can fly a plane," Lila said. "And we should always work hard and never stop trying."
As Brad was working on the book he noticed that many of the clothing available for girls were pink and decorated with princesses and fairies. So he decided to create a line of t-shirts for kids with a picture of a hero on the front and a quote from them on the back.
The Lucille Ball shirt says "I know humor can take on anything."
The Amelia Earhart shirt says "I know no bounds."
"I just wanted to give my daughter and son something to be proud of to be a real hero," Brad Meltzer said.
Of course, Brad couldn't leave out of the book one of the most important heroes he can think of: his wife, Cori Flam Meltzer.
"It's very humbling to be included among heroes," Cori said. "I think it speaks to the fact there's a hero in every one of us. We can all be a hero to someone."
If you'd like to meet Brad Meltzer in person he will be at Books and Books in Coral Gables Saturday night, April 14.
