Ryan Tannehill Leaves Dolphins Practice After Suffering Knee Injury

DAVIE (CBSMiami) -- Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill went down with an apparent leg injury during Thursday's training camp practice.
Tannehill scrambled to his right and appeared to plant his legs awkwardly before going to the ground. It was a non-contact injury.
Tannehill walked with trainers into the Dolphins facility for further examination.
Matt Moore took over taking first team reps for Miami.
The team had no updates on Tannehill's status following practice.
The Miami Herald is reporting that Tannehill hyperextended his left knee. The Dolphins are still waiting for the results of an MRI.
The same report sites a source close to Tannehill saying the injury could be damage to his poster cruciate ligament (PCL).
A sprained PCL could mean that surgery is not required but would likely keep Tannehill on the sidelines for anywhere between two and eight weeks, depending on the severity.
Head coach Adam Gase was not scheduled to meet with the media on Thursday and was not made available despite the injury.
Another setback to Tannehill's left knee would be very troubling for Miami.
Tannehill missed the Dolphins final four games of last season after spraining the ACL and MCL in his left knee, during a win over Arizona.
Moore replaced Tannehill and led Miami to consecutive wins over the Jets and Bills, with the latter victory helping to clinch a playoff spot.
Tannehill has been wearing a knee brace throughout offseason workouts and training camp but had shown no signs of lingering issues.
Beyond Tannehill and Moore, the Dolphins have second year QB Brandon Doughty and fourth year QB David Fales on the roster.
Should Tannehill end up missing any extended time, Miami would likely kick the tires on a veteran free agent to come in and either compete with or back up Moore.
Two names that have been thrown around are Colin Kaepernick and Jay Cutler.
Kaepernick has been looking to sign with a team but to no avail, with many believing that his political statement of kneeling during the National Anthem last season is the main reason he is still unemployed.
The Dolphins had a few players that also kneeled during the anthem last season, but owner Stephen Ross did not seem to have an issue with it.
ESPN is reporting that Kaepernick's name has already come up as a possible target for the Dolphins inside the team's front office.
As for Cutler, the 34-year-old retired from the NFL earlier this year after a sub-par season with the Chicago Bears in order to begin a career in broadcasting.
Two seasons ago Cutler enjoyed one of the best of his career, and many believe that the main reason for his success had to do with the Bears offensive coordinator at the time.
That man was none other than current Dolphins head coach Adam Gase.
