Ryan Braun Suspended By MLB For Alleged Ties To Gables' Biogenesis Lab
CORAL GABLES (CBS4) - The punishment has come down for Milwaukee Brewers and former University of Miami star Ryan Braun for his alleged involvement in a performance enhancing drug scandel centered around Coral Gables-based Biogenesis Lab.
Major League Baseball announced Monday that Braun has been suspended for the remainder of the 2013 season, or 65 games. The suspension will also include any post-season games. ESPN.com is reporting that Braun will not appeal the punishment.
"As I have acknowledged in the past, I am not perfect," Braun said in the statement. "I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions. This situation has taken a toll on me and my entire family, and it is has been a distraction to my teammates and the Brewers organization.
Braun and Miami native Alex Rodriquez are among the more than a dozen players under investigation for ties to Biogenesis, a closed anti-aging clinic in Florida linked with the distribution of performance-enhancing drugs. MLB officials have been interviewing players, who have been represented by the union and their own lawyers.
The owner and operator of the Biogenesis clinic, Anthony Bosch, has allegedly been meeting with Major League Baseball investigators and has turned over countless documents to back up his claims of working with the players named in company documents, according to ESPN.com.
More suspensions are expected.
The entire investigation started after the Miami New Times acquired documents from Biogenesis showing that players like Braun, A-Rod, and dozens of other players were allegedly using performance-enhancing drugs.
