DAVIE (CBSMiami) – It was a precarious situation on the entrance to the Florida Turnpike southbound along I-595 Wednesday afternoon during rush hour.
A tractor trailer hauling crushed glass overturned and the trailer landed several dozen feet below. Meanwhile, the tires on the back end of the cab dangled over the edge of the roadway.
The driver, the Florida Highway Patrol identified him as Osbelto Fragela, 30, of Miami, said little.
"Bien, bien," Fragela said.
Fragela said his dog -- who was in his truck -- was ok, too.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver got out of the truck on his own after the crash and the takeaway from this story is how lucky drivers on the turnpike and I-595 were when this tractor trailer flipped over.
"The timing and location of this was very fortunate," said FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky.
Wysocky said it appears the driver took the curve to the Turnpike at 595 too fast and the trailer disconnected.
"You figure at 4:40, right during rush hour, he loses control of a tractor trailer and doesn't hit any cars on the ramp and ends up over the wall," Wysocky said.
FHP said Fragela will be charged with careless driving.
