Rubio Votes Against Authorizing Military Force In Syria
WASHINGTON (CBSMiami) – Florida Senator Marco Rubio joined the minority in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and voted against a use of force resolution in Syria Wednesday afternoon.
Nevertheless, the resolution passed by a vote of 10-7 with Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts voting present.
The vote wasn't completely partisan as Senators Bob Corker (R-TN), Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ), and Senator John McCain (R-AZ) all voted in favor of giving the president authorization to use force against the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad.
Senator McCain had been considering not supporting the bill because it didn't go far enough in giving the president enough authority to reverse the battlefield momentum.
On the flip side, Senators Tom Udall (D-NM) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) also voted with Rubio and others including John Barasso and Rand Paul in denying the president the authorization to use force in Syria.
