Rothstein Auction Nets 250k For Ponzi Scheme Victims
BOCA RATON (CBSMiami) - An auction held over the weekend netted some big bucks for the victims of convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein.
The auction, held by Fisher Auction Company, brought in more than $250,000 from the sale of Rothstein's personal effects.
"There has been strong interest in all facets of the Scott Rothstein saga, which led to very high interest in this particular auction," said Lamar Fisher, president and CEO of Fisher Auction Company. "Hundreds and hundreds of people attended the previews and participated in both the live and online auctions."
Some of the items included custom-made suits, shirts and ties, expensive cigars, custom humidor, jewelry, autographed sports memorabilia, signed works of art, fitness equipment, patio furniture, luxurious home furnishings, crystal, china and wide-screen TVs.
For the first time, Rothstein wife's belongings were also sold, which included including high-end designer women's shoes and handbags, clothing and other personal effects.
The auction was held by order of the U.S. Bankruptcy court and will be added to the fund to repay victims of Rothstein's 1.4 billion Ponzi scheme.
