Romney Struggling With Hispanic Voters
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama are both trying to court the increasingly powerful Hispanic vote. But with less than a month left before Election Day, Romney is having serious problems making a dent in Obama's lead among Hispanic voters.
According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, America's Voice released a poll of Florida Hispanics Thursday that showed President Obama had a 61-31 point lead over Romney. It was the largest lead Obama has had in the poll yet. It's also in line with recent national polling of Hispanic voters.
A recent NBC/Wall Street Journal/Telemundo poll released Wednesday pushed Obama's support over 70 percent, as did a CNN poll released Tuesday. A Latino Decisions tracking poll released Monday gave Obama 73 percent support among likely Hispanic voters.
The polls were released before the first presidential debate where Romney performed well and Obama came across as distracted and not wanting to be on stage.
Republican strategists have said that if Romney can't procure at least 30 percent of the Hispanic vote, he has no chance of winning the White House. More will be known as polling begins to be released in the aftermath of the first debate.
