Rolladen Customers To Get Refunds In Deal With State
HALLANDALE (CBSMiami) - One of South Florida's most well known hurricane shutter companies, in trouble with consumers and the state for allegedly taking money without installing shutters, will be giving customers more than three-quarters of a million dollars in refunds after reaching a settlement for the Florida Attorney General's office.
Hallandale-based Rolladen had come under fire for allegedly taking $790 thousand in deposits, but in many cases, failing to finish installations. Rolladen is best known for it's pricey powered roll-down shutters that were especially useful above the ground floor of buildings. The state was prepared to consider shutting the company down before reaching the settlement
Under the agreement with Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, Rolladen owner Robert Hoffman will return the deposits and stay out of the shutter business for a year, prohibited by the settlement from marketing or installing shutters.
Rolladen must provide the refunds within 90 days.
This does not end Hoffman's problems. The president of the 42-year-old company was arrested in July by the Broward Sheriff's Office, charged with running an organized scheme to defraud based on the way he had run his company.
Hoffman and Rolladen are also named in nearly a dozen lawsuits filed regarding his business practices.
