Robbery In Reverse As Burglars Target Cell Phone Store
NORTH MIAMI (CBS4) – Call it a robbery in reverse as North Miami police look for the brazen bandits who smashed their way backwards into a cell phone store early Tuesday morning.
It happened at 4:50 a.m. at the Wireless Toyz store at the corner of Dixie Highway and NE 135th street.
"It's a disaster, a disaster," commented a customer who was paying her cell phone bill.
According to police, the thieves used a stolen car that they reversed into the building then ditched at the scene.
"As is the case in these situations, they will take a stolen car, break into a business and then it's up to us to find out who was doing these sorts of things," said Neal Cuevas of the North Miami Police Department.
The manager of the store said they will remain open and work around the mess until the glass is cleaned up and the window replaced.
"Obviously it's upsetting. We want to do business when this happens it's a disappointment but something we will work through," said Manny Palacios, the store manager.
Palacios said they deal in mostly pre paid phones and the thieves did not make it to the back of the store where some of the inventory is kept.
There is reportedly surveillance video of the burglary but it has not been released yet.
Police don't know whether this is connected to other smash and grab incidents in South Florida.
