Road Rage Victim Flashed High Beams Before Shooting
NORTH MIAMI (CBS4) – The man who was shot during a road rage incident in North Miami Wednesday night says he was shot after flashing his high beams.
Abdon Jabouin, 49, told CBS4's Peter D'Oench from his hospital bed at Jackson Memorial Hospital that he first noticed the driver on the other side of the road.
"There was a driver on the other side of the road," he said. "I flashed him with my high beams because we were both going towards the cemetery and I needed him to let me go towards it. He followed me all the way down the block and shot me in the back through my window. The bullet hit me in the arm. I don't know what upset him so much. I said, 'What?'"
Police said just before 8 p.m. a dark colored SUV pulled along side a car in the 2000 block of NE 151 Street when someone inside the vehicle opened fire on Jabouin's car.
"The occupant or occupants of a dark SUV shot from the SUV into the victim's car," Major Neal Cuevas of the North Miami Police Department said. "The victim was struck once in the back."
As the SUV sped off, Jabouin was able to make it into the Walgreen's parking lot where he fell out of his car screaming that he was shot.
Police said the shooter then took off.
"He then pulled a u-turn and fled westbound in a two-tone, large green SUV," Cuevas said.
Jabouin clothing and sneakers were left behind at the scene before he was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was listed in serious, but stable condition.
He said he's fortunate after experiencing the shooting.
"I don't think words can describe how lucky I feel to be alive," Jabouin said.
Meanwhile, police said they are looking for the shooter.
"Clearly they are dangerous," Cuevas said. "We have a person who was shot. We have a person that for all we know was just driving down the street and for whatever reason, someone in another car decided to shoot at him."
Jabouin agreed.
"A guy like that should not be on the road," he said. "They should not be on the street. We need to find him."
Cuevas said the shooter is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
